In Reading, we urgently need people who could look after children and young people of all ages, especially teenagers.

We were all teenagers once and we know the ups and downs of this time. Being a teenager in care is no different. They will have different thoughts and feelings about the experiences they have been through. A kind and understanding foster carer can help them work through their emotions.

The teenage years are a hugely important time for educational development and making those all-important choices for their future. You would need to be a positive and firm influence in their life and help guide them. This is the time that they need to learn vital life skills like budgeting their money and completing applications and you can help them with that.

Teenagers are exciting and individual people building their own personalities and can definitely teach you a thing or two as well.

What our teenagers in care say

‘My carers have given me confidence, security, and motivation and taught me how to push myself. They have also taught me how to have a good sense of humour and see the fun things in life.’

‘My carers have given me a family that I didn’t get when I was younger. I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for them. They have given me hope, ambition and have made me braver to face things in life.’

‘I came into care as a teenager, my carers taught me to achieve everything I want to achieve in life, they taught me about the world and how it is supposed to work.’

‘I want possible carers to know not to be scared of us as we seem tough on the outside but sometimes we are scared and soft on the inside. We just want someone to love us.’
